Day 8: In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Apparently I'm supposed to be embarrassed about rec'cing my own fics? Not really, although picking through all my stories does make me wish I'd taken more time with a good number of them. And, all worksafe here.

Oh, But You're a Pretty Thing. BtVS Drabble. Angelus will follow Darla anywhere.

The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road Remix), a Snape/Anya story I wrote for the Circle of Friends remix, depicts a relationship in letters, e-mails, and wedding invitations.

One Zombie Two Zombie Red Zombie Dead Zombie. The BtVS episode "The Zeppo" if written by Dr. Seuss.

Marzipan, a Leverage fanfic, shows us Parkers first friend.

Sailing Towards the Dawn. Babylon 5. Dr. Franklin's hitchhiking days. He's running towards something, even if he doesnt' know it yet.

On This Side of Goodbye. BtVS. A Giles and Faith friendship fic.
This is the first time I tried a writing exercise: take your first sentence and rewrite it again and again and again. It did greatly improve the beginning of my story:
The room, red and gold everywhere, looked like someone’s virgin kid was about to be debauched. For all that Big Al had ranted on about intentions being a heavy-duty deal for the ritual, the room he’d dumped them in wasn’t raising anything pure in Faith’s thoughts. Taking one look at the overly-stuffed velvet chairs, she decided to stand. Angel was sitting. Of course Angel was sitting. He’d been practically shitting guilt ever since he, or Twilight using his body, had killed Giles. Faith was sort of surprised he hadn’t found a bed of nails to lie on. “What is it with magic users and furniture?” She kicked at one of the chairs. “I’d rather be strung up on a rack than sit on this thing. Is it some sort of prereq for the job, never being comfortable again?”

Day 03

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Mostly Buffyverse:
The Letters (the 84, Charing Cross Road remix): cross-over between Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer written for the Circle of Friends remix. I always enjoy taking part in CoF because it takes me outside of my box, allows me to try styles of writing I hadn't before. This story depicts a relationship in letters, e-mails, and wedding invitations.

Pulling a Rabbit Out: Anya/Giles during Tabula Rasa. Humor. “Sex relieves stress. We should have sex.”

One Zombie Two Zombie Red Zombie Dead Zombie: another out-of-the-box story, "The Zeppo" as written by Dr. Seuss.

Sailing Toward the Dawn: I just love this one. Babylon 5 set during the days when Dr. Franklin was hitchiking through the stars. Stephen realizes he isn't just running way. He's running to something, even if he doesn't know what it is yet.

A Note From a Memory You Never Had: BtVS but Fray!verse (comics). The library, abandoned for over a century, is unexpected but not as much as the note left for her.

Feeding: Dark!Willow. This one also depends on the Fray!verse. Willow's first concern when magic returns to the world.

Marzipan: Leverage: Of course teen-age Parker's first adult friend would be a woman the rest of the kids are scared of.

Edited:
I'm adding In a Corner of My Soul. I'm rereading it in preparation of finishing the next chaper or two. I'd forgotten how good it actually is. *grin*

Hardison took a step back, raising his hands slowly, as his eyes shifted left, looking at Eliot like he was completely nuts. “Please be polite to the man with the gun.”

In a flash that Hardison could barely follow, Eliot had gotten in close to the guy, done something that suggested he'd hit him since the guy staggered back, and then was standing next to Hardison again. He pulled a cartridge out of the gun and then tossed the two pieces, gun and ammo, off in opposite directions.

“Doesn't have a gun now.”

As a child, Parker had learned to dress in the dark. The more you hid yourself, the less they could hurt you.

After seven years together, Alec still waited for her to dress and leave the room before he turned on the light. He knew it had nothing to do with him. Some hurts you just don't get over.

Summary: Alec and Parker share a moment

That first night, when they were still just settling into their Boston offices, Alec and Parker, laden with Chinese take-out, were caught by snow flurries. Eyes half shut against the snow that was flustering in at them from every which way, they ducked their heads for the mad dash, almost slipping here and there on the slick sidewalks, back to the building. Once they'd made it to the slight protection provided by the awning, Parker shook her head and spat snow off her lips while Alec shifted his bags into one hand to wipe his face. By the time he'd cleared his eyes and was reaching his free hand towards the door handle, Parker had given up on shaking off the snow and had taken a step closer in so that, when he looked over at her, the lights from the foyer were glittering off of the snow still stuck to her hair and clothes.

Alec stood there, gaping at her.

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing,” he replied as he pulled open the door, ducking his head slightly before looking back up at her.

She gave him an unreadable look as she stepped inside. He didn't tell her because he thought she wouldn't understand and also because he didn't know how to explain it, not even to himself much less to Parker who just didn't get things but, for a moment, with the snow tangled in her hair and eyelashes, Parker had looked just like an angel.

In that he'd underestimated her. She'd had the exact same thought about him.

Summary: Forgetting, Nate is happy for a moment.

“Come on, Nate. I'm freezing,” Sophie said, shivering from the sidewalk. He looked her over: no hat, fur coat but a short one, dark Armani pants that the wind must be whipping right through, and high-heeled leather boots that were completely inadequate for a Boston winter.

This was going to be fun. “You can't be cold. You're wearing a fur coat.”

“That only goes down to my waist,” she replied.

In response he let himself fall backwards, onto the snow, and started swinging his arms and legs. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so happy at least not at first but then it hit him. He'd been out on a dinghy with his family, fishing poles in the water, and his son had squealed in delight each time they'd been spritzed by spindrift.

He stood up, brushed the snow off of his coat, and started walking at an angle calculated to take him across the grass. Without even glancing back once at Sophie, he said, “All right. We'll go back.”

Summary: Written for a prompt at Bite Sized Bits of Fic: Leverage, Parker/Eliot, making snow-angels

“Do it and I'll be your friend,” Parker bargained in that deadpan voice of hers.

“We're not friends.” Eliot felt as if he'd been poleaxed. Not five minutes ago, they'd passed a girl teasing her boyfriend with the same words and Parker had stared at them, as if studying the couple, so closely that the young man had turned and asked, angrily, if there was a problem. It hadn't been difficult to calm the guy down, especially given that Eliot had no qualms about telling anybody that there was just something off about Parker. Still, it hadn't been exactly pleasant, he was rather annoyed at Parker, and damned if he couldn't tell if she was just trying, and failing, to be normal or if she was actually messing with him.

“Come on,” she said, grabbing his arm and trying to pull him onto the snow. He didn't move. She pulled harder. With a sigh he let himself be dragged along.

The things I do for family, he thought as they each fell backwards and started making snow angels.

Notes:
  • Maude and Miss Chardin are named from a character in the movie Harold and Maude.

  • As far as I know, we don’t know Parker’s first name but the story really required one. I gave her a flowery girl’s name, something I thought didn’t suit her, to explain why she goes by Parker. I picked Cassandra because Parker says things people don’t want to hear and Gabrielle because in “The Miracle Job” the little girl thinks she’s an angel.
